What is NAMI ?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) was established in 1979, and since then has grown to over 1200 chapters nation wide. NAMI is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families impacted by brain disorders.

NAMI Southeastern Arizona was founded in 1999 and is one of several chapters in Arizona, comprised of consumers, family members, friends and supporters.   Efforts are focused on:

SUPPORT--
Families & friends find strength and understanding through sharing common experiences with others who have "been there".

EDUCATION--
Members work to eradicate the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding mental illness by educating ourselves and others within our communities.

ADVOCACY--
Members advocate at the local, state and national levels for improved treatments and services, and better access to quality mental health care.

RESEARCH--
Through membership dues and other fundraising efforts, NAMI Southeastern Arizona supports continued research on brain disorders--their possible causes, and improved treatments.
